Nokia to deliver affordable 5G phone next year

While 5G phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Huawei Mate 20 X 5G are slowly becoming more popular, their prices are still quite high. Juho Sarvikas, the chief product officer at HMD, said in an interview that Nokia will release a more affordable Nokia 5G phone next year with its upcoming value flagship.

Sarvikas explains that HMD sees an opportunity in bringing 5G to a broader audience. The company has already started with cutting down the cost of the handset. The aim is to offer a 5G phone at only half the price of current offerings on the market. Nokia is working closely with Qualcomm on developing the phone and is also in talks with US carriers to further expand into the country.

An affordable 5G phone will surely help with 5G adoption rates. Currently, even if 5G connections are available on the specific market, users don’t really use it as devices that support such connectivity are highly expensive.
