New chipset for upcoming flagship – Mate 10
Huawei showed-off its new chipset and officialy announced – it is called Kirin 970. Chipset was shown on IFA Summit in Berlin, as shown on pictures. Main difference is that Kirin 970 has built-in AI computing capabilities. AI platform runs on a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which is 25x faster than Kirins CPU and 50x more efficient. It can perform up to 1.92 TFLOPs. Kirin 970 is made of 4 Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz.
Also there is a new GPU – Mali-G72 MP12 , a twelve core beast. It is made on 10nm proccess and features Cat 18. LTE modem. All this should make Kirin 970 20% faster than Kirin 960. Kirin 970 will debut on Mate 10, that'll be unveiled on October 16th in Münich.
