Samsung will offer premium buying experience to Galaxy Fold buyers
Samsung stated in an interview for The Verge that they want to ensure premium buying experience for their customers who opt for the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Also they talked about their process behind developing this device. The company explained how they thought about and tried different designs for the new phone but at the end focused on inwards folding design. They chose this method in order to protect the screen, unlike Huawei with their Mate X the screen of which folds outwards.
We already know that the Galaxy Fold will come with a price tag of $1980. Kate Beaumont, director of product services and commercial strategy for Samsung UK says that because this is a super premium device, Samsung wants to make sure that customers "concierge-like service and experience, so it's not going to be on display in all stores." This means that the general public won't be able to play with it in any tech store. The new phone will also come with an extensive aftercare.
You’re not going to see it on the stands, we want to make sure it’s a very personal experience. There will be quite intensive aftercare that goes with it as well. – Beaumont
She also said that the industry as a whole was stuck with the lack of innovation in terms of the smartphone form factor for quite some time. Samsung offered this new design because they have seen the potential of a foldable phone. Her opinion is also that, in a few years, there won't be any questions as to why users would want to have such a phone.
They are, however, still very secretive as to what exactly this buying process will be like. We hope a buyer will document it and share it with the media. Journalists are still to get their hands on this phone, so being as it is, we still know very little about this new beast.
