Huawei announced its foldable phone – Huawei Mate X

Huawei has finally introduced their version of a foldable phone, and it's called Huawei Mate X. This phone will be capable of establishing 5G connections for which it will use Huawei's own modem – Baolong 5000. The company claims that this is the fastest 5G smartphone on the market.

The star of this phone is, of course, it's display. When unfolded, the screen of the Mate X measures 8" in diagonal and boasts the resolution of 2480 x 2200 pixels. When folded over, the main part of the display ends up measuring a 6.6" with the resolution of 2480 x 1148 – the well known 19.5:9 aspect ratio display.

The other side of the display serves a similar purpose as the one on the Nubia X and NEX Dual Display. When taking selfies, you'll be able to use the primary camera, and see what you're doing on the secondary display. Huawei states that the phone will be capable of taking "best in class selfies" but they didn't specify what class that is.

The company has also stated that we should expect to see four cameras on the Mate X. The demo unit, however, only had 3 sensors that we could see, which means that this design is still not final, but it is sure that these will be Leica sensors which should be able to capture flagship grade photos.

When folded, the phone measures only 11mm, which makes the Mate X the thinnest foldable phone on the market. When unfolded it measures only 5.4mm, however the camera section still protrudes in order to make the camera work properly.

All this is powered by a 4500 mAh battery, which charges through a USB-C port on the bottom. The phone uses 55W SuperCharge technology which should pump up the Mate X to 85% of battery in only 30 minutes. On the right side of the phone there is also a fingerprint scanner which doubles as the power button.

Huawei Mate X will come to market in mid 2019 and will have a price tag of 2299€. It will come in only one color option – Interstellar Blue.
