MediaTek introduces the Helio M70 5G modem

MediaTek is introducing Helio M70, their first modem chipset capable of 5G. The chipset will make use of TSMC’s 7nm process which integrates Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) technology. The company will begin to ship the 5G modem in 2019.

The company also announced that they joined forces with Nokia, China Mobile, and Huawei to develop and test the 5G modem before implementing it into smartphones. These co-operations also allowed the company to widen the 5G network technology to support telecom operators.

MediaTek’s 5G modem will begin shipment in 6 months ahead of the original schedule. There are numerous smartphone manufacturers that have already accepted MediaTek’s 5G modem integrated into their devices that will be released in 2019.
