MediaTek releases new gaming-oriented chipsets

MediaTek officially announced two new gaming-oriented chipset – the Helio G90 and G90T. The new chips contain two Arm Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55s paired with the Mali-G76 GPU. Both the G90 and G90T are built on TSMC’s 12 nm FinFET process and can reach clock speeds up to 2.05GHz. In addition, the new chipsets support up to 10GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

The new chipsets come equipped with HyperEngine game technology. This technology should bring support for an array of functions and thus improve the overall gameplay experience. The most important of these functions is the networking engine which automatically combines WiFi and LTE connectivity and boosts signal strength.

Another headline is the support for dual WiFi connectivity. This option allows a single device to connect to two WiFi routers simultaneously. This way, the device secures a more reliable connection and decreases latency. HDR10 support and display touch acceleration are also present to add to the fluid in-game experience.

It is clear that MediaTek is trying to take over a piece of the smartphone gaming industry. They will try to do this by offering these chipsets at a lower price compared to the rival Qualcomm, who recently released a new flagship Snapdragon 855+. The first phone with the new chipset might be a Xiaomi device that will come to India.
