Network carriers will be able to hide network strength information with new Android P

If you did not know, current Android versions allow us to view the strength of the network signal that our phone receives from the nearest signal repeaters. It looks like this will change in the future because network carriers have asked Google to allow them to hide this information from the Android platform. This informations got revealed when a piece of code got released on the Android Open Source Project. There is no information why operators would like to get this option.

External apps that exist on the Play Store will still be able to collect information about the signal strength, which will be hidden only in the SIM information in the settings.

The signal received by your device is measured in dBm (relative decibels per miliwatt). When these numbers are smaller the signal is better. Reading of a -120dBm signal would mean that your phone receives minimum signals and is ready to shut off the network, while the strongest signal readings are measured at -60 dBm.
