Oppo R19 to have new MediaTek Helio P80
Yet another new, powerful chipset should hit the market in the first half of 2019, and some reports suggest that the Oppo R19 will be the first smartphone that will sport the new chipset.
MediaTek has apparently been hard at work in order to improve the performances of their chipsets, and as a result the Helio P80 will be their main chipset for the first half of 2019. According to performance ranking via the AI benchmark app, the P80 had the second highest score of 19453, just behind the Snapdragon 8150 that scored 22082. This score is also better than the Kirin 980 which had 12026 points.
The P80 is built on the same 12nm process as the Helio P70, and it uses and improved ARM architecture, and its AI capabilities are significantly improved.
This won't be the first time that new MediaTek chipsets will debut exactly on Oppo devices. The Helio P60 has successfully been used on the Oppo R15, while the R17 ditched the MediaTek chipset. Perhaps this is why MediaTek decided to strengthen their new chipset's performances, so that they could get enough orders for this year.
