Samsung began mass production of a 512GB storage chip

Leading company in advanced memory technologies, Samsung Electronics, announced mass production of 512-gigabyte storage chips for eUFS (embedded Universal Flash Storage) type. This chip consists of eight 64-layered 512 GB V-NAND chips, as well as a controller. It's important that Samsung managed to pack all this into the space where 48-layered V-NAND 256GB chip was.

The controller is used on this chip to speed up the mapping process for converting logical block addresses to physical ones, and Samsung introduced this technology to increase performance and reduce the energy consumption that the chip uses. The Samsung 521GB chip also has enormous speeds of writing and reading data, as much as 860 MB/s for sequential reads and 255 MB/s for sequential entries. Full HD video of 5 GB should be transfered from the chip on SSD within 6 seconds.

For normal operations, the chip can read 42,000 operations per second (IOPS) and write down 40,000.
