Samsung reveals the first ever 8Gb LPDDR5 RAM in the industry

Samsung has publicly announced that they have developed the first 8 gigabit LPDDR5 RAM chip that uses “10nm class” process nodes in the industry. The chips features a transfer rate speed up to a maximum of 6,400Mbps which is quite an improvement when compared to the best current chips out there.

It’s also important to note that the LPDDR5 can operate at a lower supply voltage of 0.5v compared to the LPDDR4X which needed a 1.1v to be operational, however Samsung also mentioned that the new chip will use up more power than the LPDDR4X when it’s operating at full 6,400Mbps so a new mode called the “deep sleep” will be featured which cuts the power consumption by half to save up to 30% power efficiency.

The chips are said to be able to reach up to 50GB/s of bandwith which is great. With a bandwidth that high, It’s expected to be focusly used on 5G and AI powered applications.
