Introduction
Similar to other manufacturers, Tesla also have Lite versions of their devices. The specific device we have in our test today is – SmartPhone 6.2 Lite. This is a device from the budget class, with one of the best screens for this class out there, and a decent chipset. The device is made of plastic with a metal frame. Inside the factory box we can find: a warranty card, a quick start guide, a gel case, screen protection, a charging adapter, a microUSB cable and 3.5mm headphones. The chipset is 64-bit, and has 4 cores clocked at 1.25 GHz. Good cameras should also round up the story of the 6.2 Lite device, but more about that a little later. The device is available in several colors: White, Dark Blue and Gold. Let’s now see what we get from the 6.2 Lite.
Unboxing
Display
Tesla 6.2 Lite has a surprisingly good display for this price range. It is a 5” IPS LCD display in HD resolution. Same as the 6.2, the 6.2 Lite also has the FullLamination system for improved brightness. The sharpness of the screen is great, the contrast is very good, and color reproduction also deserves to be mentioned for its quality. When it comes to protective glass over the display, nothing is mentioned on the Tesla official website, so we do not have any information about it. The HD resolution on a 5” diagonal translates to 294 PPI.
Hardware and OS
TESLA SmartPhone 6.2 Lite comes with preinstalled MediaTek MT6737 chipset. It is a quad core chipset clocked at 1.25 GHz. The cores are Cortex-A53. Mali-T720 MP2 GPU is in charge of the graphics. In our gaming test, this GPU performed quite well. The thing we do not recommend, however, is long gaming, because the device has a tendency to overheat, which brings to performance drops and quick battery consumption. RAM is at 2GB, and internal storage is at 16GB, but it’s expandable via a microSD card up to 64GB. Speaking of the OS, Tesla SmartPhone 6.2 Lite comes with preinstalled Android v6.0 Marshmallow firmware. The system is quite clean with no bloatware, and the general user experience is above expectations – everything works very fluently.
Camera
The SmartPhone 6.2 Lite comes with an 8MP main camera. The details are solid, color reproduction is satisfactory, and noise levels are quite low. Video is captured in FullHD resolution at 30fps in .mp4 format and results are average. The interface is intuitive and simple to use, and for low light conditions there is an LED flash just below the camera. Photo setting parameters include: ISO settings, Exposition, Face/Smile detection. Shutter speed is excellent. The front facing camera has the resolution of 5MP. Details are great and, in general, the photos look quite nice, but the colors could be a little bit more saturated. Video recorded with the front facing camera is captured in 720p HD resolution at 30fps.
Connectivity
As a representative of the lower class, the Tesla SmartPhone 6.2 Lite brings a solid list of connections. The device is DualSIM and it supports two microSIM cards. The Tesla 6.2 Lite has a separate microSD card slot which can support expansions up to 64GB. A microUSB port is used for charging and data transfer. 3G and 4G networks are supported as well.
The list of connections contains:
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- A-GPS
- FM Radio
- BlueTooth v4.0
Battery
The Tesla 6.2 Lite has a 2200 mAh battery, which is removable. It is a typical Li-Ion battery. The device does not support quick charging.
Results are great:
- around 280 stand-by hours
- around 21 talk time hours
Final words
Tesla SmartPhone 6.2 Lite definitely justifies its price, which is quite low, with its performances and the equipment you get in the factory box alongside the phone itself. Warranty lasts for 2 years, which is also a big plus. Good cameras, a decent chipset and very nice software promise a lot. As in other phones in the Tesla lineup, the quality of the casing could be a little bit better. Simply, when you use a Tesla phone, it is clear that it belongs to the lower price range. However, everything else is very good, the device promises a lot, so the Tesla SmartPhone 6.2 Lite is our warm recommendation.
