Introduction
The best smartphone from Vivax has made it for our review! It is the Fly 4 device which represents a fusion of elegance, power and convenience at an excellent price point. The Fly 4 is equipped with great 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable by a microSD card. Sounds great, doesn’t it? What if we also told you that this device has a fingerprint scanner built into the HOME button? That sounds even better! All this combined with a modern OS version and an enormous battery makes the Fly 4 an interesting device for users who seek a powerful device with a lot of autonomy. Vivax, next to the hardware, didn’t cut any corners regarding the factory box as well: Vivax charging adapter, 3.5mm in ear headphones, a microUSB cable, user manuals, a SIM tray tool and a film screen protector. The device we have for our test is in Warm Gold color option which looks outstanding combined with the metal chassis, and it will definitely find its way to a big number of buyers. There is also the Titanium Grey color option. Let’s now look at this elegant device which promises a lot in more details.

Unboxing
Display
The Fly 4 can boast with a spacious 5.2” display, which represents the middle grounds regarding the size while retaining the practicality of the device. All corners are within reach of an average user’s hand, so one handed use shouldn’t be an issue. The resolution of the screen is 720p HD which combined with the 5.2” display translates to 282 PPI. As this is 2.5D glass, the device sits in the hand very comfortably and gives an impression of a much more expensive device. We wouldn’t mind FullHD panel either, but that would require more powerful hardware which would result in higher price. Nonetheless, the sharpness is very good, and web-surfing will definitely be a pleasant experience on the Fly 4. Color reproduction is very nice, and in spite of this being an IPS display, the visibility on the sunlight did not disappoint. Viewing angles are great! We must also not forget MiraVision, the built-in system for display enhancements with two pre-set profiles, as well as the User Mode which offers a lot of adjustable parameters so that your device could tailor to your needs. Of course, the brightness sensor placed next to the front facing speaker is used for brightness adjustments, and it offers great maximum and minimum brightness levels. Vivax has also offered a few interesting wallpapers which round up the story about the display and make the menu more pleasant to use.
Hardware and OS
Vivax has reached for a MediaTek chipset to build into the Fly 4. It is the well-known MediaTek MT6753 chipset which we could see in a number of other devices. The chipset is consisted of 8 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz. These are Cortex-A53 cores. This is a 64 bit processor. GPU built into this device is Mali-T720 MP3. The device has 3GB of RAM which surely is enough for multitasking, while there are 32GB of internal data storage expandable via a microSD card up to 128GB. The device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat which is great, since the Oreo still isn’t widely spread. Interface is very nicely made, with a few Vivax applications which will bring you to the user manual and their official web site. The general feel of the device is excellent. The ”Lock Screen” looks as it should, showing notifications, clock and date. There are also shortcuts to the phone application and the camera application. We especially liked the planner application which serves the purpose of turning the device off and back on at a pre-set time. Very convenient! Navigation through the menu is perfectly fluid with no lag. Running all social applications also doesn’t represent a challenge for the Fly 4, and neither do more demanding games, so gamers cannot really feel neglected. Heating up of the device is within normal limits, as is the battery consumption during heavy use. The thing that we really liked is the fingerprint scanner built into the Home button on the front side of the device. Basically, this button has triple functionality: it server as the fingerprint scanner, touching it will bring you to the previous menu, and pressing it will bring you all the way to the start. Perfectly practical!
Camera
The camera department is also caught up to the trends. On the back there is a 13MP sensor which is supported with an LED flash for low light shooting conditions. The camera interface supports following modes: Normal Mode, PIP (Picture in Picture) and Panorama mode. HDR mode for contrast improvements is also supported. You can see additional camera options in photos we’ve provided in the gallery. Speaking of the quality of photos made with this camera, the impressions are somewhat mixed. A steady hand and lots of light provide decent photos which would look really nice even printed out. However, if the light is not plenty, the quality of photos drops significantly. That’s not to say that the camera is bad, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvements, primarily noise levels and color reproduction. OIS is not supported, but it is worth to mention EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) which fixes things a little bit. Video capturing is also possible, and the Fly 4 is capable of taking FullHD 1080p videos at 30fps. Videos look decent, but they also suffer of high noise levels. Lower resolutions are also supported, such as HD 720p and VGA 480p. If we were to speak about the front facing camera, things are a little better. The front facing sensor has 8MP resolution and it gives pretty good results. The thing that would definitely be an improvement is the software flash for night photos. This can be a little hint to the Vivax team for one of the future patches. Front facing camera captures videos in VGA resolution.
Connectivity
The Fly 4 shows its practicality in its DualSIM capability, making it appealing for business users who have a need for multiple phone numbers simultaneously. This device supports one nanoSIM and one microSIM card. The Fly 4 supports 4G networks with a lot of bands, so wherever you go, your Fly 4 will find a suitable frequency. The SIM tray is easily removed with a tool which ships in the factory box. The microSD card slot is also a big plus, and we are very happy that Vivax has decided to keep it in this device. A limiting factor is that this is a hybrid slot, so if you choose to use a microSD card, you’ll have to remove the nanoSIM card. MicroUSB port is used for charging and data transfer. NFC is not present, and it would definitely make this device more complete. Speaking of wireless connections, we have:
- WiFi 802.11
- Bluetooth 4.0
- A-GPS
- OTG
Supported frequencies are:
2G – 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
3G – 900 / 2100 MHz
4G – 800 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz
Battery
The thing that really represented the love at first sight is the battery of the Fly 4. This is a non-removable battery, and it is a big one with 4000 mAh, but the Fly 4 is still a compact device despite its mammoth battery. This device supports fast charging, and using the adapter shipped in the factory box we have managed to fully charge the Fly 4 in a little over 2 hours. This device will provide around 10 hours of talking time and around 340 hours in stand-by mode. This is a lithium-polymer battery.
Final words
The Fly 4 definitely leaves a good impression. Users which encounter this device for the first time will have an impression that this is a more expensive device. The fingerprint scanner rounds up the story of this device, as does the hardware which will turn the use of the Fly 4 into a real pleasure. Improvements regarding the quality of photos made by the main camera can, in a big part, be made through software patches, so Vivax has an opportunity to fix it in one of the next system updates. We think that the Fly 4 is one excellent device which will satisfy even more demanding users.
