Redmi to employ a 64MP camera sensor
Back in May, Samsung introduced a new 64 MP camera sensor. Now we have news that Redmi will be the first manufacturer to put this sensor to use. The company has posted an image to its Weibo page, and we think that the picture might, in fact, be a camera sample.
Redmi stated that the industry as a whole is entering the era of 64 MP cameras, and we should expect a phone with such a sensor soon. We don’t know for sure that the company will use Samsung’s sensor, however, it’s quite possible.
The image did not say specifically it will use the Samsung sensor, but given the timeline, it is highly likely. Smartphones were able to produce 64 MP images years ago, but this is the first time a sensor is able to provide such detailed photos.

This sensor employs Tetracell technology, pushing out 16 MP photos in a low light environment. There will probably be a 64 MP toggle to use all the pixels, but you should only do this in good lighting because it does not provide such extra detail as the binned version. We also expect improved autofocus and Full HD videos at 480 fps.
The Quad Bayer sensor will also enable real-time HDR. All this means that the new phone will surely make excellent photos.
