Redmi to introduce 64MP camera on August 7

In May, Samsung unveiled the ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor. Smartphone manufacturers have since been racing to bring a phone to the market that employs a camera with this sensor. Realme announced that it will showcase such a camera on August 8. Xiaomi, however, aims to be the first – the company has invited media representatives to a demo on August 7.

The new camera will be implemented into a Redmi smartphone and should produce 20 MB photos. Xiaomi is going to reveal exactly how it works in its image processing laboratory, the home of the camera department.

We must acknowledge the possibility of Redmi introducing an actual smartphone with the new Bright GW1 sensor. We do believe that this is far fetched, but nonetheless, the possibility exists. Redmi’s current flagship, the K20 Pro, comes with the Bright GM1 platform with Quad Bayer layer and produces impressive 12 MP images through a 48 MP sensor.

The new 64MP sensor uses Tetracell (Samsung’s word for Quad-Bayer), which means that we will likely see some sharp 16 MP images.
