Smartphone sales in Q2 2019 – reports

Strategy Analytics and Counterpoint came out with data for Q2 2019 regarding global smartphone shipments. As expected, on the global level, the shipments went down. Despite the overall decline, Samsung and Huawei are seeing a slight increase in smartphone sales.
According to Strategy Analytics, global shipments fell by 2.6%. Samsung recorded a 1.9% increase, Huawei gained 1.7% and Apple lost 0.7% compared to the same period last year. Roughly, this means that Samsung sold 76.3 million units, Huawei 58.7 million devices, and Apple 38 million iPhones.
Xiaomi and Oppo follow the top three manufacturers with 9.4% and 8.7% market share. Both of these companies saw a slight increase in market share as well. However, total shipments for Oppo fell while Xiaomi’s figures remain the same.
Counterpoint’s research provides similar data. Samsung’s market share is around 20%, Huawei nearly 16% and Apple with a little over 10% share. All three companies have a slightly lower market share compared to last year. Counterpoint, as opposed to Strategy Analytics, reports that global sales are down just 1.2% as opposed to 2.6%.
