Apple iPhone Xr – the last of its kind
The next "budget" iPhone is here! The Xr was revealed yesterday, and it already raises eyebrows because of the way Tim Cook presented it. There's no denying that this phone is a beast, it is well capable of doing anything, but it's not exactly a budget phone.
Let's take a closer look at its spec sheet. It still has an LCD display (now rather poetically called Liquid Retina by Apple), with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a notch at the top. Nothing unusal – we got used to this already – however, the resolution is sub-par compared to competitors. This display has the resolution of 822 x 1172 pixels, meaning that it's less than FullHD (1080p), and has 326ppi. This is an incredible display, and it's quite possibly the best LCD panel out there, but it's nothing like OLED panels the Xs and the Xs Max are rocking.

Apple made quite some changes in the chipset area as well. This phone is powered by A12 Bionic chipset which is nothing short of a beast. It's both faster and less power demanding compared to the predecessor A11.
The new Xr comes in a variety of colors, so here they are.

Anothing striking feature that differentiates this devices from its two big brothers is a single camera sensor. Yes, this sensor is the same across all three phones, but the Xr is missing the telephoto lens, meaning that effectively it's missing optical zoom. Not a dealbreaker, definitely, but again, competitor companies go up to 3 outstanding cameras for the same, or even lower price.
Speaking of price – this is where Apple really stepped on many peoples' toes. This phone is marketed as a budget device – for only $750. This is not too bad if you're living in the USA. However, European market begs to differ. The base model, depending on where in Europe you may live will cost you:
- Germany – 849 € (apple.de)
- Italy – 889 € (apple.it)
- France – 859 € (apple.fr)
This is only the information for 3 countries, but the price point is much higher than just $750 in the US. Most people will beg to differ that this is a budget device, provided that, for instance, for around 500 € you'll be able to acquire OnePlus 6T which has much better specs for quite a lot less money. We're only left to see for ourselves if it's worth the price, and we can't do it before October 19 when preorders are starting for this phone
