In-display fingerprint scanner becoming huge
Slowly but surely, Xiaomi is emerging as one of the market leaders. Of course, they are still not there, but now it seems that this is about to change. Xiaomi's CEO, Lin Bin, posted on his Weibo account a video showing new unlocking method that the company may end up using in their phones.
What's different here compared to other fingerprint scanners is that, first, it's of an in-display kind (which is nothing new at this point), and second is that it's huge! The area that a user can utilize to unlock the phone is 50 mm by 25mm in size, allowing users to unlock the phone extremely easily.
This problem emerged once the manufacturers shifted from physical cutouts (which were easy to find under the finger) to in-display readers. Users had to be very accurate and place the finger precisely over the reader for it to be able to scan the finger properly. This new technology solves this issue, and it seems that it is quite quick and precise.
Lin Bin said that the fans are very accepting of the new technology, however, the company is still considering its implementation into their upcoming phone which means that most probably we won't see it in the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9.
