Nokia 9 PureView announced at MWC
The phone long talked about, Nokia 9 PureView, has been announced at the MWC event in Barcelona. This is at the same time the first Nokia phone that comes with a 7 hole setup on the back. Inside 5 of these 7 holes there are camera sensors, one houses a dual LED flash and there is also one ToF sensor for additional depth of field information.
This five camera setup is definitely the most interesting part of this phone. All five cameras has the same 12MP f/1/8 sensor and each one uses Zeiss lenses, two of which are RGB and three are monochrome, which is also quite impressive. According the HMD statements, all five sensors work together to capture photos. That way they capture up to 10 times more light, and then through software all five photos are blended into one producing one amazing photo with incredible details, textures, shades and colors.
Each photo is made in the HDR mode, which can make 12MP photos with great dynamic range. Next to this, it also means that users will be offered an option to use depth adjustments in order to tweak the bokeh effect after the picture is taken. Users will also like the option to capture and edit videos in RAW and DNG formats, as well the option to record 4K HDR videos at 30fps.
What's especially interesting is that none of the 5 cameras protrudes out of the housing which is, design-wise, an incredible move. We know that Nokia has made a partnership with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom which will enable photo editing be done directly on the phone. The front facing camera has a 20MP f/1.8 sensor which will make incredible photos.
The device comes with a 5.99" OLED display with QHD+ resolution (2880 x 1440 pixels) and the aspect ratio of 18:9. This display has HDR10 support and it's protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, on the back as well as front. Nokia 9 PureView comes without a notch on the back, and the optical fingerprint scanner is built into the display.
Nokia 9 PureView is powered by the last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which could be taken as one of the downsides of this phone because most new devices use the current Snapdragon 855. The premium phone will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage memory, which is on par with what other Android midrangers offer.
Two phone is supplied with power by a 3320 mAh battery, and it comes with fast charging support, both wired and wireless. Dimensions of the phone are 155 x 75 x 8 mm and it will work on the new Android 9.0 Pie OS. Nokia 9 PureView is water and dust resistant and has an IP67 certificate. It will come in only one color, Midnight Blue, and a price tag of 620 euros.
