OnePlus 7 Pro to push industry standards regarding displays

OnePlus is expected to announce the successor to the OnePlus 6T soon. The company still hasn’t confirmed an announcement date, but we expect it to happen at any time. In the meantime, CEO Pete Lau talked to The Verge revealing a few things about the upcoming OnePlus 7 and another even more premium device: the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Lau confirms that the two phones will be announced side by side. Although he didn’t talk about pricing, we expect the new OnePlus phones to compete against Samsung, Huawei, and Apple’s flagships – so expect a similar price.

Lau offered hints about the 7 Pro’s display, stating that it will set the bar for mobile displays. Lau told The Verge “The first time I saw it myself, I was stunned,” also saying that it will be “super-smooth and very crisp.” In a teaser released last week, Lau Tweeted about the phone being “Fast and Smoooth,” directly referring to a possible 90Hz refresh rate display. Only the Pro model would have such a display.

A 90Hz display on a non-gaming smartphone would be an incredible addition. This would make the UI animations and transitions look much better. Lau explained that OnePlus is using three times more expensive panels compared to those of previous models, due to which our expectations are immediately much higher.

Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 7 will surely be more expensive than the OnePlus 6T. This means that it will definitely start above $579, which is the price of the 8GB + 128GB Mirror Black device. The Chinese company is no longer trying to sway the buyers with aggressive pricing but may actually step shoulder to shoulder to the competitors.
