vivo to bring 120W fast charging to the market

Manufacturers have been trying to outdo the competition in terms of fast charging for quite some time now. First, there was OnePlus with its 30W charger. Then, Huawei upped the ante with its 40W charger and finally, there was Oppo Find X with a 50W charger.

Today, however, we received the news about a crazy new idea by vivo. They are planning to introduce 120W Super FlashCharge capability. According to the official data, it will be able to fill up 50% of a 4,000 mAh battery in 5 minutes and needs only 13 minutes to reach 100%.

The company is preparing for MWC Shanghai 2019, which is taking place next week. vivo is participating, and the company is expected to demo an actual 5G smartphone and not just an update of an already existing device as it did back in December.

The 120W charging speed does sound interesting in theory, however, it might take some extra time before it turns into reality. Ultra-fast charging usually generates a lot of heat, which is why it’s hard to push it too much – it’s simply impractical. On the other hand, Xiaomi did recently tease that the company was working on a 100W charging standard. All this might mean that we are close to a breakthrough.
