Xiaomi CC9 and CC9e officially announced

Last year, Xiaomi bought the smartphone company Meitu. Yesterday, we reported that the product of this collaboration was coming today, and it was right. Xiaomi CC9 and a lighter Xiaomi CC9e were, indeed, announced, however, we didn’t have a chance to see actual phones.

Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO, introduced the CC series, explaining the meaning behind the name. It means Colorful & Creative and is developed by the Chic & Cool 90 team.

The announcement didn’t show any phones so we are still waiting for the official launch of the Xiaomi CC9.

Lei Jun also explained what the number in the name means. It stands for the age of the company – 9 years. Xiaomi has done this once before – they skipped the Mi 7 and jumped straight to Mi 8 to celebrate the 8th birthday.

The Xiaomi CC series will be the third brand by the company, next to Redmi and Mi phones. This series will be designed by art students while the target audience are young fashion trendsetters that “want to define themselves”. The Chic & Cool 90 team take aesthetics very seriously, which could mean the phone won’t necessarily pursue top notch specs.

Lei Jun also added that young people wish to be seen and heard. They love taking photos and sharing them with everyone. The new phone will have a new aesthetics concept of “Xiaomi X Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab”, combining advanced camera hardware and beauty technology.

What this could mean is that Xiaomi is going to implement even more beauty filters and AI engines to enhance the photos since those are very trendy China.
