LG presented V50 ThinQ, G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ at MWC

MWC in Barcelona is happening right now, and LG has presented us with three new devices from the G and V series, V50 ThinQ 5G as well as G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ, which are all phones in direct competition with other flagships.

LG V50 ThinQ 5G

The first LG's 5G phone which is the successor to the V40 comes with a 6.4" OLED display, 2K (3120 x 1440 pixel) resolution and aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It is equipped with a tripe main camera setup, with the main 12MP f/1.5 sensor, secondary 12MP telephoto sensor and the third 16MP ultra wide sensor. On the front the phone has a double camera setup which consists of an 8MP f/1.9 sensor and a secondary 5MP f/2.2 sensor.

Inside this beast, Samsung has implemented Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset together with Qualcomm X50 5G modem. According to LG, development of this phone wouldn't be possible without their partnership with Sprint.

The phone also comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and it supports storage expansion via microSD up to 2TB. All this is fed by a 4000 mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3 technology. On the back there is also a fingerprint scanner, while the phone comes with MIL-STD 810G protection as well as IP68 water and dust resistance certificate. Other specs include all regular connectivity options, WiFi, Bluetooth 5, NFC, 4G VoLTE, FM radio, 3.5mm audio port, USB Type-C port among other things. The phone runs on Android 9.0 Pie system and it is available only in Astro black color option. Dimensions of the phone are 159.2 x 76.1 x 8.3mm and it weighs only 183 grams.

Accompanying the phone, the company has launched some additional equipment. We got a Dual Screen case which will enable users to experience double display on their V50 5G. The second panel comes with a 6.2" OLED display and FHD+ resolution. It doesn't have its own camera though, so both displays will be powered by the same 4000 mAh battery.

LG G8 ThinQ

This device is equipped with a 6.1" OLED display with Quad HD+ resolution (3120 x 1440 pixels) and pixel density of 564 PPI, so there's no doubt this is a sharp display. This phone also comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset built in, together with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage memory and a microSD card slot capable of supporting up to 2TB of additional memory. The rear facing camera setup is similar to the one built into the V50 ThinQ, a triple camera setup with two 12MP f/1.5 cameras and a single 16MP f/1.9 third sensor. When it comes to the front facing camera, there is an 8MP f/1.7 sensor paired with a 3D ToF sensor for 3D facial unlocking as well as selfies. The phone comes with a 3500 mAh battery with similar connectivity options we could see in the V50 ThinQ, with the lack of 5G of course.

One of the more unusual features on this phone is the "Crystal Sound AMOLED" that uses the display as the speaker. The phone still has a standard speaker on the bottom as well as these tiny actuators that vibrate on the surface of the glass in order to increase the volume of the sound.

The G8 ThinQ comes with another interesting features, the Hand ID, that uses hand movement identification to unlock the device. It shoots IR light which reflect of the hand. The phone recognizes the veins inside your hand and uses this map for unlocking. LG claims that this is a very precise and safe identification option.

Next to this, there is another interesting feature of the Z camera – Air Motion, which recognizes a collection of finger movements which you can use to answer calls, record the display and switch between applications. You can even adjust the sound volume by rotating your wrist to the right to increase and to the left to decrease the volume. LG has placed a 3500 mAh battery into this phone which is paired with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The LG G8 ThinQ comes with Android 9.0 Pie OS and it's available in three color options, red, black and grey.

LG G8s ThinQ

This is yet another device equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM and either 64GB of 128GB of internal storage. It uses a 6.2" OLED display with the resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels and the aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The rear facing camera is similar to the one found in the G8 ThinQ, the difference being that the 16MP sensor is replaced by a 13MP one. The phone, then, uses a 13MP sensor and two 12MP sensors. The front facing camera is the same in both phones, which means that the G8s ThinQ also uses an 8MP sensor together with a 3D ToF sensor for 3D facing unlocking. Dimensions of this device are 151.9 x 71.8 x 8.4 mm, and it weighs 167 grams. it also supports the Air Motion feature and it comes in black, blue and red color options. It is also powered by Android 9.0 Pie OS.
